The nature rezerve “Dēliņkalns” covers 44,7 ha and located in the Alūksne region on the borders of the Jaunlaicene and Ziemera rural districts.
The area was created in 1962 as a complex protected area. Its aim was to maintain the geological and geomorphological value of the highest point (271,5 m above the sea level) of the Alūksne Highlands, Dēliņkalns, and the characteristic vegetation of the region. In 1993, the complex protected area was renamed a protected natural area. Due to its high landscape value, in 1977, the protected natural area “Deļiņkalns” was included in the nature reserve of “Veclaicene”.
The main natural values of “Dēliņkalns” are the European Union protected forest habitats – 9050 EUsignificance biotope code coniferous forests rich in herbaceous plants, 9010* EUsignificance biotope code – old or natural boreal forests, 9180* EUsignificance biotope code forests of slopes and ravines. In the old wild coniferous forests, there are a loto f different age decomposition fallen or standing dead tress or their stumps that are a great feeding place for rare and protected birds – white – backed woodpeckers, three-toed woodpeckers, black woodpeckers and grey-headed woodpeckers. In these forest habitats several rare invertebrate specieshave also been identified (two lipped door snails, land snails).
There are no populated areas or farmsteads in the protected natural area, but there is a sightseeing tower built at the top of Deliņkalns and two places of rescreation.
