Vosvi God’s Hill and the Māra’s Footprint Stone is a national archaeological monument.
On the surface of the Vosvi1 Māra’s Footprint Stone (2.7 m long, 2.3 m wide, up to 0.7 m high) one can see the traces of fire. There are several hollows in the stone, two of them are 16–18 cm long and 7–8 cm wide resembling foot-prints.
The legend tells that, when mounting a horse, Māra stepped on the stone where we still can see her footprints.
Once the signs on the stone were called the Devil’s footprints. Due to the typical foot-like hollows the stone is to be listed among the foot-print stones.
A row of several large stones runs from the Māra’s Footprint Stone in the direction of Sauleskalns (Sauleskalns Hill). It is considered that Vosvi God’s Hill with the Māra’s Footprint Stone is an ancient pagan cult site as it is indicated by both the hill and stone name. It might have been the place of ancient astronomical sightings – the calendar.
God’s Hill is about 100 m long loaf-like hillock stretching in the north–south direction. On the west side against Lake Klotiņš it rises at a height of about 60 meters. On the side of free from trees and shrubs where a path from the farm “Brīvzemnieki” (also “Škepasti”) leads to the Māra’s Footprint Stone, one can enjoy a beautiful view of Estonia.
